Digitization, globalization, the current credit crisis and enormous technical progress will threaten traditional business models.
Market dominating positions only last, when disruptive new services are put into place, since sustaining innovation will not suffice to battle increased commoditization of core products and services.
Insight
Oftentimes the “enabled” customers are not fully understood.
The opinion of enabled, efficient and exited customers often differs from the perception of managers: facts and cognition of a product, service or a touch point can be inconsistent. Only innovations beneficial to customers can deliver long-term growth. “Though consumer choice has never been richer, especially good service remains rare. When it does occur, it acts as a benchmark.”, IDEO 2009
Impact
To set and keep the pace is essential for the purpose of impact.
Achieving lasting impact requires to address obstacles such as lengthy development times, risk-averse cultures and a lack of coordination. Reduction of business complexity, focus on the customer benefit, alignment if IT and technology to business and maintaining innovators spirit help. Innovations require close monitoring while launching them in order to make necessary corrections quickly.
