Our colours

The name Cridon and the colours used are derived from pigments common in fine art painting. The following descriptions are taking from Max Doerner: „Malmaterial und seine Verwendung im Bilde“, 18th edition , Thomas Hoppe, Ferdinand Enke Verlag, Stuttgart 1994.

Chinacridone

Cridone are directly manufactured red organic „High-Performance“ pigments. They arevery sunfast and highly solvent resistaned, to name a vew properties. Their excellent properties make them an ingrdient in premium class finishes.

Caput Mortuum

Caput mortuum (latin for skull) is a synthetic red iron oxide between brown and purple. It was discovered in 15th century by accident since it was waste while producing vitriolic acid. Up to know it is used by artists which appreciate rare and mystic tones changing its appearance with the light.

It is also named Colcothar or “Morellensalz”.

Mitis Green

Mitis green was widely used for its very positive painting properties. However it is also very toxic. Produced in Schweinfurt, Germany it was forbidden in 1882. Over 80 names have been used to hide its poisonousness.

Lapislazuli

Lapislazuli oder heute Ultramarine has a history of more than 7000 years. Being also a gemstone it has been very expensive and has been used in painintgs as a status symbol. However, it is also one of the best blue pigments existing.
